PAYATAS C ELEMENTARY

Payatas C Elementary School is a self-keep project of Madjaas Confederation of Payatas II, Quezon City. Due to the need of residents of group II to have a public elementary school, Payatas C came to existence. It is encroached by the squatter houses. It is located along Litex road Group II Bgy. Payatas, Quezon City leading to Montalban. The school started with two classrooms way back in 1983.

From the 24 hectare of land claimed by the Federation, 10,000 square meters was then set aside for the school site, but unfortunately through the influx of the squatters the school is now only occupying more or less 2,000 square meters. Out of it, only 1,600 square meters has been occupied by buildings and other structure like stage, comfort room, plant boxes and others. The remaining vacant space with more or less 400 sq. m. has been utilized for beautification like herbal garden, gulayan areas, spice garden, orchidarium, aviary, fish pond, concrete flagpole, aquarium and terrarium utilizing mineral container. The cemented level areas served as avenue for sports development, physical fitness, and other curricular and co-curricular activities. The school has five one-storey building with 24 academic classrooms and 3 rooms used as service centers such as administrative office (Principal’s Office, Clinic, Canteen, Guidance and EMIS), and Library. Due to shortage of academic classroom, the created H.E Room was turned into academic classroom. The PREFAB 2 classroom building was built last 1986 and is recommended for demolition. The two FFCCC II 2 classroom building was built last 1989 and is recommended for repair.

The school population of 2,880 urban poor pupils is manned by 79 intelligent Teachers such as 1 MT-II, 2 MT- I, 2 T-III, 6 T-II, 43 T-I, 1 diligent Sec. Guard and 1 school Principal. Our school is one among the 13 schools in SD XI under the management of our workaholic district supervisor Dr. Zenaida R. San diego. These personnel had been very cooperative and supportive to the mission and vision of the school in particular and to the educational thrust in general. Most of the parents are jobless and live by scavenging, vending, and construction and other low income earning jobs.
The school is adopted for four years by Project SSPEED Ateneo wherein they are helping the school in the land titling, construction of 3-storey 18 classroom building and teachers’ training in Science, Math ,English, Information Technology and Health Training Program for Public Elementary Teachers.
The classroom has an average of 50-55 pupils per class. The school has regular session of classes: Grade I to VI in the morning session and Grade I to VI in the afternoon session.
Generally speaking Payatas C Elementary School is depressed, deprived and underserved school. It has limited spaces and not conducive to learning due to overcrowded pupils, substandard classrooms and polluted air coming from garbage dumpsite which affect the health of the pupils as well as the teachers.
